Commenting on the expansion, Realex Payments founder and MD Colm Lyon said the move “marks a new era for the company, and enables us to raise the bar significantly in terms of our service offerings.”
With a number of new products in the pipeline Realex Payments expansion plans don’t stop with the Irish market. “We are not just expanding our Irish operations; we are also opening a dedicated Realex Payments UK office in London to capitalise on our existing success in the UK market, where 30% of new business emanates each month” Lyon commented.
Realex Payments is a true Irish success story; founded in 2000 by Colm Lyon, who left a senior IT management role to establish the company, having worked in Ulster Bank for 14 years. The company has experienced a period of tremendous growth, in the past two years alone the number of staff employed has doubled year on year. The company has grown from employing just 14 staff in 2005, to employing almost 50 people today, with plans to double this to 100 in the next 18 months.
The company’s growth has been fuelled by a number of recently signed corporate clients, including Perlico, Tesco Mobile, Superquinn, Buy4Now, and Jackie Skelley Fitness.
The company has over 2000 clients and processes almost €4Bn Euro a year into over 20 banks or financial institutions across Ireland, the U.K., and Europe. Clients include some major Irish household names such as Aer Lingus, Aer Arann, Quinn Direct, Direct Ski, Vodafone, and property website Daft.
Realex Payments founder and MD, Colm Lyon is also Chairman of the Irish Internet Association, having recently been re-elected for a fourth term. He was previously nominated as finalist for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award.
