System Administrator

Role Description
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Systems Administrator will form part of an operational team that is responsible for the day to day care and maintenance of all Realex Payments computing environments. This includes responsibility for the maintenance of hardware, local area networks, wide area networks, operating systems and applications.

This is a technical post requiring prior experience in operating a 24x7x365 enterprise environment. The candidate must have primary degree in Computer Science or related discipline, a solid background in systems and network administration.

Required Experience
The candidate must fulfill the following requirements, applications which do not fill this minimum criterion will not be considered.

  • BSc in Computer Science or related.
  • Minimum 2 years experience in a systems/network administrator role.
  • Experience in providing on-line services in an Enterprise environment (24x7x365).

Desired experience:

  • Experience working in a Network Operations Centre (NOC) environment.
  • Experience managing a team of administrators.
  • Experience monitoring and meeting agreed service levels (SLA).

Required Skills
The candidate is expected to have a high level of technical proficiency in most technologies commonly found in the enterprise environment. It is not required that candidates have prior experience of specific vendor solutions but preference is given in a number of areas. Administration of following type of systems:

  • Linux systems (preference for Suse Linux);
  • Microsoft Windows systems (2000 and 2003);
  • Web Servers including IIS, Apache and Apache Tomcat;
  • Cisco Catalyst switches and routers;
  • Enterprise databases;
  • Patch management systems;
  • Backup and restore systems;
  • Storage management systems;
  • Network and application monitoring systems (preference for the Tivoli suite).

Knowledge of the following:

  • Strong knowledge of TCP/IP and related protocols.
  • Strong knowledge of key internet technologies such as DNS, SMTP and NTP.
  • Strong knowledge of troubleshooting and problem resolution techniques.
  • Knowledge of operational information security issues.

 Desired Technical Qualifications:

  • Cisco Certified Network
