Infrastructure Design Engineer
Primary Accountabilities
The Infrastructure Design Engineer will be a key member of the Infrastructure team within the Programme Delivery Department. Working in tandem with application developers and security analysts, you will have responsibility for the planning, design and implementation of new infrastructure required for the growth of Realex Payments business’ through the development of new services. This is a technical post requiring prior experience in building and operating real-time 24x7x365 environments - it would be highly desirable to have gained this experience in the banking, payments or financial services industries.
Duties and Specific Responsibilities
- Taking responsibility for designing, developing, testing and documenting infrastructural projects from inception to a production-ready state.
- Actively engaging with the business to define and document service requirements.
- Ensuring the infrastructure meets strict security constraints and standards (i.e. security hardening).
- Defining and contributing to new and existing standards and processes.
- Interaction with third party suppliers and vendors, including network, software and hardware vendors as required.
- Providing post-implementation third level support to the IT Operations Team as required.
- Leading other technical and operational duties as assigned.
Experience & Skills
The candidate is expected to have a high level of technical proficiency in most technologies commonly found in the enterprise environment.
- UNIX/Linux systems (SUSE Enterprise Linux preferred).
- Web Servers including IIS, Apache and Apache/Tomcat.
- Microsoft Windows systems (2000 and 2003).
- Cisco Catalyst switches and routers
- Patch management systems.
- Backup and restore systems.
- Storage management systems (e.g. SAN, NAS).
- Firewall, clustering, multiple ISP connections and web server pools.
- HA and DR architectures.
- Network and application monitoring systems (Tivoli/Nagios preferred).
- Strong knowledge of troubleshooting and problem resolution techniques.
- Strong knowledge of TCP/IP and related protocols.
- Strong knowledge of key internet technologies such as DNS, SMTP and NTP.
- Knowledge of operational information security.
The following certifications are a distinct advantage:
- Cisco Certified Network Associate/Professional.
- Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) Novell.
- Certified Linux Engineer (or equivalent).
